No Job Too Big, Or Too Far for APC's Dynamic Team
27 September 2018
Challenge accepted! We were in South Australia recently to install a large racking system for a client who needed a storage fit-out of a large and fully enclosed tent, spanning more than 130-meters in length.
One of APC’s latest jobs took our team to Whyalla - a remote city situated 390km West of Adelaide - where we were asked to design and install a unique storage solution.
Our Client, OneSteel – Australia’s largest manufacturer and supplier of structural and reinforcing steel - required an efficient storage system to house a variety of mechanical and electrical Stock Keeping Units, ranging in size and weight. The racking system was to be installed in a large and fully enclosed tent spanning more than 130-meters in length.
Narrow Aisle Pallet Racking was selected to optimise floor space while providing direct access to every pallet via a heavy-duty narrow aisle side loader forklift. Multiple beam colours were used to illustrate the load capacities of the racking, making it easy for the forklift driver to identify where items are to be stored, providing efficiency in the loading and unloading of the different SKU’s.
In order to provide enough support for the racking system, we installed them on 121-metre-long concrete plinths, with engineer cast guide rails, designed and engineered by our team. The plinths had to remain under 200mm above floor level to guide the forklift, however, because the floor was not level, the racking was required to be levelled on top of the plinth. Using a combination of surveyors’ data, shims, grout and adjusting beam levels, APC were able to ensure the system counteracted the sloped floor and was level across the entire 121-meter distance.
This job highlights, not only APC’s expertise in designing, engineering and installing warehouse storage solutions, but our commitment to providing businesses throughout Australia – no matter the location or warehouse type – with a storage solution to meet their requirements.
