Celebrating Women in the Workplace

Women’s rights and achievements will be recognised as part of International Women’s Day. APC is incredibly fortunate to have a team of very dedicated women who work in varied roles throughout the company.

In light of International Women's Day, APC Project Coordinator Pooja Bansal and design and estimator Sanaz Khajehdehi discuss their role within the company and what they enjoy about their jobs.

Hailing from India, Pooja recently joined APC as an experienced Project Coordinator. Having completed a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters in Construction Management she brings a wealth of experience to a very challenging role. Pooja is responsible for overseeing the many projects APC has scheduled.

“Every project is unique and has its own challenges and that’s what I really enjoy about the role,” she said.

“What I really like about working here at APC, is they’re open to my ideas on how to improve our project management systems. There is an urge to improve and everyone is positive about it.

“There is an amazing culture here. There is so much room to grow as a person and as a professional.”

As a keen surfer and someone who loves the beach, coming to Australia is a dream come true for Pooja.

“I would like to be in a position where all my friends, family and colleagues are proud of me,” she said.

For Pooja, International Women's Day is a day to celebrate women being more empowered today as compared to previous generations and making a valuable social contribution.

"It marks a special day to all that we as the female species have achieved both personally and professionally in all facets of life and look forward to achieving," she said.

"It is an unspoken gesture of respect by those around us who value our contribution to society."

Sanaz, who is originally from Iran, also has a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and has been with APC for two and a half years. She is responsible for designing complex and efficient storage solutions and estimating the cost associated with the build for APC’s clients.

“I like the challenge and each job is different,” she said.

“When I receive a job request, I need to figure out how to solve it and I enjoy the challenge of that.”

Sanaz said she was focused on gaining as much experience and knowledge as possible to improve her design skills. In her spare time, she loves to read and enjoys running.

Working at APC has been a rewarding experience for both women.

“Everyone is very knowledgeable and have been very helpful and supportive,” said Sanaz.

For both Sanaz and Pooja, if you work hard you can do anything, irrespective of gender.

“Anything you want to do, you can,” said Sanaz.

International Women’s Day is a global event, which celebrates women’s achievements and highlights the actions that are still required to achieve gender parity.
