APC was selected as the supplier of various commercial and industrial storage solutions for Australia's first 'rapid build' prison built in Wellington, NSW. APC worked closely with stakeholders to ensure installation was completed within an 8-week timeframe.
National construction company Hansen Yuncken and commercial fit-out specialists RGC Consulting collaborated to design and build Macquarie Correctional Centre. They required a range of commercial and industrial storage solutions for the facility. APC was selected as the supplier, for our ability to complete a job of this size and scope and on time.
Macquarie Correctional Centre is a 400 bed, maximum security facility. It is one of the many ‘rapid build’ correctional centres to be built as part of the NSW Government’s Prison Capacity Program.
APC’s experience in engineering and manufacturing in addition to our ISO9001: 2015 certification in quality management ensures all our products are built to last, making them a perfect fit for high-traffic environments such as this one. Our storage solution included a combination of lockers for staff, tambour cabinets for general storage, steel shelving (Uni-Shelf®) for general storage and the library and longspan shelving (Uni-Span®), pallet racking and cantilever racking to store raw materials for inmate workshop areas as well as the storage of consumables for the prison. We also procured a number of non-standard items such as benches and library shelving. To adhere to the codes and specifications of the facility, special fixings were applied to the walls and floors where the units were installed inside the prison confines so they could be securely attached and not moved.
The job was completed in three stages based on the builder’s schedule. As soon as one area of construction was complete, we moved in to install the required storage solution for that area. Overall the project was completed in about two months. APC worked closely with contractors and the clients, so the delivery and installation of our products could take place without causing disruption to the construction of the facility and ensure the deadline was met.
