ATCO Gas Project
Client: ATCO Gas
Location: Jandakot, WA
In Western Australia, ATCO owns and maintains the major natural gas distribution network. Along with an ongoing focus on ensuring the safety, security and affordability of natural gas, ATCO continues to innovate and investigate the additional value it can provide to Australia into the future. ATCO required a storage solution to store a variety of items - ranging from large generators to brass fittings - following redevelopment of ATCO’s facilities. APC was awarded a tender for the project for presenting an original design suited to ATCO’s storage requirements.
Briefing
ATCO is a one-stop provider of integrated energy, housing, transportation and infrastructure solutions. As well as enhancing its existing facilities, ATCO added a new training centre, Six Seasons Garden (based on the Nyoongar calendar) and a research and development facility called the Clean Energy Innovation Hub, supported with funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). The design of the building was put out as a tender in 2017. Storage was not a component of the tender at that stage, however, APC met with ATCO to develop some initial designs. Subsequently, APC was awarded a tender for the storage of the store’s warehouse before being asked to design a storage solution for several other warehouses and workshops located within the facility. Our solution comprises of Selective Pallet Racking, Uni-Shelving, Longspan Shelving and Workbenches with Galvanised Tops.
Challenge
The racking had to be installed in stages to accommodate the builder’s schedule. APC’s proposal included solutions suited to the building design and storage needs of ATCO with the versatility to store a wide range of different items including generators, gas meters, pipes and brass fittings. There were alterations to the proposed design due to constraints on the required working spaces before installation of the racking. This required APC to amend the design by reducing the number of racking bays in one of the warehouses. Due to APC’s flexibility and adaptability, this was easily achieved to ensure the best use of overall space.
Solution
Our solution included Selective Pallet Racking of various elevations including the integration of particle boards to create shelf levels in the rack for the storage of a range of different items. Selective Pallet Racking is ideal for storing a large number of mixed Stock Keeping Units with 100 per cent selectivity. Uni-Shelving was installed underneath some of the racking to allow additional palletised stock to be stored above. This ensures the appropriate stock can found and replenished easily. One warehouse has caged pick box areas to allow technicians 24/7 access to stock. APC supplied our Uni-Shelving within these areas. APC's Uni-Shelf provides visibility of stored items, so technicians can quickly and easily locate items. The shelving is adjustable, allowing a wide range of items to be stored and to cater for any future changes of stock holdings. Our solution also includes Longspan Shelving, Louvre Panels with Plastic Parts Trays for the storage of small items and Workbenches with Galvanised Tops for various workshops.
Result
APC provided ATCO with an original design suited its storage requirements and for the storage of a wide variety of products. APC was flexible in adapting the design for better space utilisation and installed our solution around the builder’s schedule. APC's storage solution will enhance ATCO's storage and inventory control as they continue to pave the way for a more sustainable future.
