Custom Steel Fabrication
PROJECT BRIEF
APC received a request to design, engineer, fabricate, and install an outdoor steel platform structure with a gantry portal frame. The final design would allow the client to move and lower a testing probe into a 3.5m diameter x 3.18m high test tank. This would allow the client to lift a sensor via a hoist and lower it into the tank and conduct assay testing under water.
PROJECT DETAILS
Client: Pengana.
Location: Perth, Western Australia
Products: Custom built outdoor steel platform structure, hot dip galvanised stairs, hot dip galvanised guardrails, hot dip galvanised walkway gratings, and hot dip galvanised gantry beam.
Industry: Mining.
SOLUTION:
APC’s sales, engineering and design team met with the client onsite to understand the scope of work. APC’s engineering team developed the design in SpaceGass and ensured all client specifications were met.
APC designed an open steel platform structure in an outdoor environment where wind loads had to be considered and the concrete slab had to be engineered to support the structure weight. The next phase was to create detailed fabrication drawings in Solidworks.
The platform materials were fabricated in APC’s fabrication facility and then sent to our supplier for hot dip galvanised treatment. The outdoor concrete slab and steel platform structure was all installed by APC.
PROJECT FEATURES
- Gantry beam is 6.3m long and 8.9m above ground level.
- The upper gantry rail is rated to a 500kg lift.
- The walkway is 3.65m above floor level and 5.3m long.
- Concrete slab area of 8.5m x 7m - engineered and installed by APC.
- APC fabricated steel beams, gantry, stairs, handrails, and flooring.
- Installation of outdoor steel structure needed to be built around the testing tank.
- Specialized lifting equipment and precision placement of the beams and columns were required, so as not to damage the testing tank.
